Artistic merit to make a patron proud.
The opera's story is based on the novel PILGRIM by an internationally known Canadian author, Timothy Findley. It has been adapted for the operatic stage by masters of dramatic media-radio, theatre and opera. The composer, Lloyd Burritt, and librettist, Don Mowatt, have many creative successes to their credit.
After a development period of more than 5 years, the revised libretto and piano vocal score are complete. Final touches achieved at a Fall 2007 workshop will prepare the work for formal presentation in March 2008 at The Chan Centre featuring Canadians mezzo-soprano Judith Forst, baritone John Avey and maestro David Agler.
The opera is then on its way to international audiences - a legacy for UBC, a benchmark achievement in community support, an artistic emissary to the world.
